So you need a boat safety examination.

Dont worry it's not as complicated as you might think.

If you have any questions, I am just at the end of the phone and all you have to do is ask.

There is no such thing as a daft question, After examining boats for 13 years I have heard them all so dont be shy.

WHATS THE PROCEDURE?

Well all you need to do is contact me by phone or email and give me the answer to some simple questions.

1. The name of the boat.

2. Type of boat.

3. Length of boat.

4. year of construction.

5. What type and how many engines.

6. Does the boat have any cooking or heating facilities.

7. Has the boat had a BSS certificate before.

HOW DO I PREPARE THE BOAT FOR THE EXAMINATION?

There are a few things you can do that will make the examination easier for both of us and to help ensure that she doesnt fail on something very basic as this will save you money and avoid a second visit for a minor item. So here are a few pointers. Dont worry if you are unable to get to the boat before the exam. I can always sort this out for you.

1. Check that the fire extinguishers are in good condition and of the approved type (phone me if you are not sure) and make sure they are in date.

2. Check that you have a fire blanket if you have cooking or heating appliances on board.

3. Check that your batteries are covered and fixed securely and that the battery master switch is labelled.

4. Try to make sure that the boat is as clutter free as possible as I will need to look at things like fuel filling pipes and engines so the whole process will be much easier if I can get at these items easily.

WELL, THATS ABOUT ALL YOU NEED TO THINK ABOUT FOR THE MOMENT.

WHATS THE NEXT MOVE?

Just contact me and we will come to an arrangement for me to visit the boat.

DO I NEED TO BE THERE FOR THE EXAM?

The choice is yours. You are welcome to be with me when I examine the boat or if you prefere I can examine without you present as long as I have access to the keys

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

As there are so many different types and constuctions of craft out there it would be very difficult to price them all but prices for the examination start at £65.00
